AC Question

I purchased a s8+ two days ago. The phone works damn fast but not sure why the battery is draining so fast. I have reduced the screen resolution and no app is running in the background. Still if am i am using the phone at all, the battery drops by 1 or 2% but if i use the phone, just general use, the battery starts dropping like in minutes. Is that usual and happening with others or should i replace my phone? Purchased from UAE.

🙋What do your battery usage stats indicate after a discharge from 100% to about 40%? A screenshot of them would help us to diagnose.
Also, is this on mobile data, wifi, or both?

The battery does go down quite fast. I'm use to the iPhone 7 Plus sitting on 100% for 2-3 hours or more. :-\

i didn't try mobile data as of yet. Only using wifi. But not sure why this is happening because i had bad experience with note 5 as well.

What's your screen on time? The last time you charged was over a day ago, so I'm sure it's been used a while. Looking at just that screen i think the battery drain is quite good actually. Might even be a two day battery looking at that.

Yep that is not bad honestly. That means if your usage stays the same today as yesterday, you'll hit about 5 hours of SOT with a two day charge. Many reviews even for the s8+ mentioned that it's not a two day battery.

Also have to remember, if you have a lot of standby, your SOT would most likely be less compared to if you're constantly on it. If you're on WiFi and on your phone nonstop throughout the day, without putting it down much, you could probably hit about 7 hrs SOT. But since it was mixed use, on standby and active use, your SOT is a bit lower.

What you could also do is install betterbatterystats (Google that for the apk on XDA to install), or gsam battery. Use ADB to grant extra permissions (i know gsam gives you instructions in the app itself, BBS you would need to search on the web), and use your phone normally from a full charge, from 100% to before you plug in. Before you do plug it in, look in one of those apps and see if there is any rogue app or wakelock that is keeping your phone from deep sleeping. Then you can diagnose it then

Thanks alot for your response, review and the suggestion. I will try to install the apps your mentioned to get a better battery time. My only concern was if the phone is working fine or if i am facing a battery drainage issue because imo it should not dropped automatically when i am sleeping. I charged it at night, screen time: 18m but battery dropped from 100 to 92%. The screen resolution was on minimum, no app running at the background, always on top option disabled and i was sleeping yet the battery dropped... WHY? not sure! On the other hand i have windows lumia phone, fully charged and apps running at the background, i woke up and battery is still at 100%.

My battery life has dropped quite a bit in the last few days and installed gsam. Was going to install ADB so it can give better stats but my question: is there any security risk in doing that? Any other risks? Will that impact performance?

Adb is a pc program it dosen't go on your phone and there's absolutely 0 danger nor risk (unless if you rage trying to get the commands to work lmao) i used adb to get my mobile data shortcut and you can use it for an immersive mode on the s8 too aswell as the battery app like mentionned before.

What is your screen brightness set to? Is it automatic, or do you leave it on a set level? You'll get more battery usage from the screen during the day because it needs to be brighter so you can see it. The brighter the screen, the more battery is used.

Yesterday, for the first time in a month my S8+ lost 10% of battery with about 10 minutes of SOT in about 2 hours, definitely not normal for me with this phone or any other phone, so I just did a reboot and there it went back to normal.

Just saying, every once in a while it's simply a good idea to reboot the phone, not because you MUST have to, but because when you begin to see strange behaviors, you waste more time trying to figure out what may be wrong than doing a quick reboot.

Turn medium power saver mode on with 70% CPU and resolution down to lowest. Won't notice a difference in performance but will notice a big difference in battery life.

S8 usually using 1% over 6~11 minuts, it depends on your activities....
But if ur not playing or watching videos it takes 1% over 9 mins
