Android Central Question

I have my settings set to a 3 minute screen time out and a 10 minute lock screen time out. I used to be able to have my phone time out and go to a black screen, and upon pressing the home or power buttons, my lock screen would show (but would not be locked until 10 minutes had passed) and I could swipe through to open the phone (without passcode/fingerprint). Since updating my Android, now when my phone is black (screen time out), I will press the power button or home button and my phone opens to whatever screen it was on when it timed out originally, skipping the lock screen. I'd like to see my lock screen each time that my phone has timed out and gone black, but I want it to not be locked (and need to be unlocked with my fingerprint/passcode) for the 10 minutes. Any idea why this is happening or how to remedy it? It seems to be related to the newest Android update, since it wasn't an issue until after I'd updated.

You only see the lock screen when the phone is locked. You want the lock screen when the phone isn't locked - that's like black paint that's white. You probably had the phone set to lock when you pressed the power button. Then it's locked and you'll see the lock screen, even if the lock hasn't timed out.

Negative. It came here for the same reason as OP. Previously (before the most recent update), there was a separate setting for screen timeout and secure locking. Now there is no separation. I'm wondering the same as well. If anyone has an answer, it would be greatly appreciated...

I'm having this same issue. I used to be able to see the lock screen without it locking (before this new update). The lock would turn on after 10 minutes of inactivity, but if my phone was just sitting on my desk, I could hit the power button and it would show the lock screen (without being locked). It was super convenient when I wanted my phone to show the time (I don't like/utilize the "always on" feature). Now, once the screen times out and I hit the power button, it opens the phone right back to whatever I was on before the screen timed-out. I'm not sure if you have a different phone and it's been different since the beginning for you, but my Samsung S8 has always had the ability to show the lock screen without being locked. Any ideas how to change this?
