Hi

My new S8 (3 months old) was restarted when i got up in the morning and the screen wouldn't respond to continue to reboot. The phone was sent to Samsung for repair. After a week at Samsung repair centre, they came back saying the the phone was dropped and something went wrong with the phone screen.

And accidental damage is not covered by Samsung warranty. Thus we have to pay $250 to repair the screen.

I had used the phone with a cover. Do admit the phone fell down on few times. But not really on hard surfaces, say road, hard floor. Mostly on carpet and wooden floors.

Are Samsung S8 phones that sensitive to dropping. Also I had thin back cover to protect the phone.

Read this the first time since I got mine April last year, but don't know about that kind of dropping damage. If the repair service is officially Samsung then there is little to debate I'm sorry to say.

There's an old saying in electronics about dropping sensitive devices - "you can drop it on concrete, but never drop it on a feather bed". It's not accurate of course, but what it means is that one slight drop to a hard surface at just the right spot on the phone can shatter something in the screen. It doesn't have to be a 10 foot drop, and it doesn't have to be screen-down. A drop of 1 foot onto a corner can destroy the screen.

(That said, I'm a little wary of Samsung when it comes to screen repairs. I've never heard of them doing one under warranty - they always claim it was due to user damage. But that's just my personal feeling, not knowledge of any kind. I'd be happy to find out that I'm wrong.)

Very well put. I'll explain my first day of the phone. I didn't drop it but slightly placed it somehow on what must have been a godlike precision where it somehow must have nicked in between the screen and my tech 21 cover and standard 30$sagg screen cover to my desk. What I didn't notice was anything, until I picked it up and noticed a distortion in the top right of the screen as if it was finger smudged. No clear crack evident so unfortunately knowing that my luck is never favorable I immediately return to best buy where they confirmed that crack was for certain. Once the tiniest part is compromised expect it to take the habit of a virus and slowly eat away to you end up with a split screen down the middle 'spider' crack. I can on a side note suggest if the crack isn't harmful dangerous and is still able to be able to be functional even if it looks ugly, I have been actively running a. Motorola Droid for years with minimal use. Unfortunately I had many bad Samsung screen problems starting with my s4 which I use as a secondary to my s8. I've replaced screens and phones more than 4 times. However I haven't had any issues with the new s8+(somehow they didn't even give a refurbished with the insurance when I got it in July). I have an s8 where the only screen problem is putting on a protector..professionally three fails and personally one.
