Why do only some apps allow split screen use? I don't mean what reason did the developer have to allow or not, I mean what is it about the code of some apps which prevent the app sharing a screen? Do apps need to be written specifically to allow split screen, if so why? Thanks for reading this.

They have to be written specifically to allow it because it's a Samsung only feature. It isn't android wide. So in order not to have mishaps with programs misbehaving they don't allow it unless the app has been coded for it.

When I used to root my devices there were apps that would let you use any app with multiwindow. Most of them worked fine but every now and then some didn't work right and the phone would crash.
