SAMSUNG TAB 10.1 freezes before it gets to the home screen, what could it be?

SAMSUNG TAB 10.1 freezes before it gets to the home screen

I have a samsung tab 10.1 and when I try to switch it on the samsung name comes up then it goes on to the blue swirly part but then freezes and doesnt go any further (doesnt make it to the home screen) and then it either switches off and starts again or it just stays frozen on the blue part. Ive let it run flat over night, charged it and started again but the same happened. Ive also tried rebooting by holding in the power and volume button but just does the same thing. Any idea what that could be?
