Samsung tab 2, 10.1 fails to reload after hard reset

Just carried out a hard reset on mySamsung tab 2, 10.1
Everything seemed ok, wifi done, gmail details entered, then get message ..................Just a sec...... then it just sticks like that forever. tried various permutations but always sticks.
is it the end of the road or has any one any cleaver ideas

Do you have root and a custom recovery?
