Android Central Question

So ive had this tablet (Samsung galaxy Tab lite CE0168, i dnt think its 3g/4g compatible but just in case; its not connected to a service provider) for almost 3 years and have never had a software update. Im assuming its because Samsung just isn't doing updates for older devices but I wanted to ask more knowledgeable folks than I am before resorting to selling a kidney to buy a new one 😄 Is it possible to update my software? We've been using it for my 6 yr old daughters "home school"since they cancelled school until November where I live and all the applications aren't compatible with my device. Shes falling so far behind but since Ive been forced out of work for 3 months i can barely feed her much less buy a new tablet. I'm pulling hairs and teeth trying to figure it out haha cuz idk wtf im going to do if i cant update this damn thing, if my daughter fails & gets held back im going to feel like the most worthless POS mother in existence so fingers crossed yall have a magical way to update this old ho 😂

TIA guys! I appreciate it so much.Xo

Welcome to Android Central! I can't find that model number anywhere -- are you looking in the Settings>About Phone menu for the model number?

But in general, companies stop updating their flagship devices after 2 years at the most, and often don't update their budget devices at all (or maybe they get one or two security updates, but not a major system upgrade). You could try looking in the forums at XDA-Developers.com to see if anyone designed a custom ROM for that exact device based on a higher Android version, but that usually requires a fair amount of technical expertise to install.

I, too, am interested in how this may go. Not sure anyone's still on the trail for that weary mom, but registered here anyway; in hopes I could upgrade an otherwise perfectly working device.

Welcome to Android Central! In a tablet, it would be Settings>About Tablet or About Device. It's the same idea, just called different things depending on the device.

We would still need to know the exact model name or number. "Tab Lite" is incomplete, although from what I can tell, it's probably the Tab E Lite 7", which is more than 7 years old. So it would not have any recent updates. As I mentioned above, most higher end devices will only be updated for the first 2 years of their product lifecycle, and budget devices (which would describe the Tab E Lite) are lucky to get even one major update.
