Samsung View 18.4" tablet

Versatility is subjective though. Some may consider it to not be a mobile device and therefore find it less than versatile.

Basically a big screen with old specs (yes new processor but its a midrange one) and just 2gb of RAM. Somewhat disappointing I'd say considering that tablets like our Note Pro were put out almost 2 years ago had 2gb of RAM too and the newer Note 5 has 4gb. At least they kept microSD support though.

I wish the thing had a USB type C connector and allowed itself to be an external monitor through that connector. THAT would be something . . . much more versatile at that point I would think . . as one would be able to use the device as a secondary monitor and then pick it up and take it elsewhere as a standalone tablet.

As it stands though it's basically an oversized galaxy tab S2 with slightly lower specs to keep price down.

Yes, that (doubling as an external monitor) would be a great selling point and really get people interested.

I've not seen this thing in person yet but I can only imagine how HUGE it is. 50% bigger than my Note Pro which already seems very big for a table.

Yeah same here. I already love watching media on my Note Pro . . . an 18" version would take things to another level for sure.

I would like to try the 18 inch version with a pen - since it does not come with a S-pen: does anyone know a Bluetooth-pen for Android?

I have a Note 12 and a Galaxy View. The GV is clearly biased to entertainment and I bought it as a bedroom/portable TV. It supports DIRECTV natively and I got it from AT&T for $99 by moving from U-Verse to DIRECTV. The PPI is 127 (the 2012 Note 10 was 147, the Note 12 is 247) and is horrible for text; especially at close distances. As a 1080P TV it's just fine because you're not close enough to it to see any pixelization. As a productivity device the GV would be a disaster and likely send you to an ophthalmologist.

Samsung missed the mark this time. Yes, it's the Big Dog, literally "A DOG". It certainly doesn't compete with the iPad Pro in any way. If it's a substitute TV, it fails as it costs too much for what you're getting. And as a tablet, it's a joke with its feeble screen resolution. Designed, I'm sure, by a committee, it will fool us at first sight, but I'm returning mine within the first 14 days. However, now the real potential is realized if one can adapt it for business presentations up to and including signing the contract.

Actually I see the point of this device, it's for home owners who want a large tablet device for media consumption that's portable enough to move from room to room and work wirelessly. With streaming services becoming the norm and many cable companies adding streaming services of live TV to subscribers it makes sense to have a small TV sized device that can be moved around effortlessly. I use my note pro in this way and could see using an 18 inch tablet the same way.

I guess people are confused because "the mark" hasn't existed before. The same was said when the OG Note phablet was released.

I love my Galaxy View. I was going to replace my 32" 720P TV and use the GV instead. I use my Note 5 as a remote and I charge it wirelessly on the night stand next to me so it's handy. I watch the news in the bathroom when getting ready in the morning, watch TV in the kitchen when cooking, and on the patio while reading the news, social, and e-mail on my Note 12. I can see using it more outdoors in the summer. All DIRECTV's live programming is available on the GV and it's integrated on the AT&T version. If someone's cable provider doesn't support the GV it would be a giant media viewer and that would be tough to swallow at the price.

I use it as a tablet sometimes but that's clearly not what it's for and people shouldn't buy it if they're looking for a giant tablet. It's not that the functionality isn't there, the low PPI makes the screen painful to read close up.

P.S. - There's a fantastic business presentation and digital sign maker Samsung developed for the GV available on Samsung Apps. I've used the GV with some new clients and they've been blown away.

That's exactly what Samsung intended the niche to be filled. Such as realtors showing homes and product presentations.
