Dear All:

i would like to inquire about the fall detection capabilites of the Samsung Watch7.

some people say that the Apple watch is THE BEST in this fall detection/automated call to emergency services department, and that all other watches have it more or less as a toy, not as a real medical emergency detection device.

i don't know if that is true or exaggerated?

i would like to buy a Watch7 BUT ONLY IF IT TRULY WORKS! i always get the newest Galaxy 2x Ultra, and got the 25 Ultra last week. still, buying a Watch7 is pointless if it doesn't truly perform the fall detection duties. i do not wish to wear such a device UNLESS THE FALL DETECTION is truly effective.

i've struggled to find out more about this but thus far, have not found anyone knowledgeable to truly discuss this feature in depth with me.

i hope a kind person on this forum might wish to discuss this fall detection further.

in short: i want to buy the BEST fall detection, emergency auto calling watch that truly works. i do not want a smart watch at all otherwise. this is my sole purpose and i'd be please to buy and wear the watch IF it does detect falls AND make emergency calls after a fall.

thank you in advance. hoping for some helpful answers from knowledgeable folks.

I have the GW7. I have fall detection enabled. I haven't fallen yet, so I can't say. As for Apple Watch, I couldn't say. good luck.

I stumbled and almost fell about a year ago with the Watch 6. It immediately started contacting emergency services. I stopped it before it went through because I didn’t need help, but it was reassuring that it worked. Fortunately, I haven’t had a repeat since I got my watch 7, but I assume it works.

I have fallen twice, did not work either time. Good Luck!

this article from February 28, 2025 says that the Pixel Watch has a new fall detection free feature that has been updated to its firmware that detects NO PULSE.

my question is: isn't that too late to notify people once you no longer have a pulse?

for example, once you fall, shouldn't the watch try to contact your emergency contact or 911 emergency services IF you don't tap or press somewhere to tell the watch you're actually ok?

that way, it triggers the call once you fall and do NOT respond to the watch's query.

otherwise, if it waits until you no longer have a pulse, it sounds like it will be far too late!

any thoughts please? thank you.

Google just gave Pixel Watch its most important update yet - and it's free to use

One of the Pixel Watch 3's most life-changing features is finally being realized.

The Pixel Watch 3 is getting a first-of-its-kind, potentially life-saving feature. In a blog post, Google announced that it had received FDA clearance for its Loss of Pulse Detection feature.

The feature works by tracking your heartbeat. If your heart stops beating -- due to cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose, or poisoning -- your watch will automatically turn on more accurate infrared LEDs and look for motion data.

If the watch determines you're not responsive, it will start a countdown and audio alarm. If you still don't respond, the watch will place a call to emergency services using your LTE or phone connection, inform them that you don't have a pulse, and share your location.

Google says the watch will be able to tell the difference between an actual cardiac event and the user simply removing the watch.

Safety features like fall detection and crash detection aren't new, but they aren't at the level of this one (which is why it needed FDA clearance first). Other watches have heartbeat tracking, but they track much less frequently than the Pixel 3. The Apple Watch, for example, tracks heart rate every 3 to 7 minutes by default.

Google worked with cardiologists

Speaking to The Verge in August, Sandeep Waraich, senior director of product management for Pixel wearables, explained that pulse detection is a combination of pulse, heartbeat, contact with skin, and "a bunch of other things like motion."

To develop the feature, Google worked with cardiologists to learn what a loss of pulse looks like on watch insights. That data was used to build an AI algorithm that was then tested using hundreds of thousands of hours of real-life user data from a diverse group of people. Google then used stunt actors wearing tourniquets that would artificially create a lack of pulse and simulated the types of falls that would mimic a person suddenly losing their pulse.

Release timeline

Pulse detection should be available in the US by the end of March and will arrive via an update.

I wear my Watch Ultra all the time. Since I pre-ordered it I have worn it every day. During this time I've taken two hard falls, this watch did nothing. A few months after that the sleep sensors started putting out nutty, inaccurate readings. This watch has been a total, utter, and expensive disappointment
