The news has caused their stock to drop and cost them $7 billion in market cap from this one instance alone. I don't think they make $7 billion in profit from this one phone alone!

Samsung Mobile Recovery Suffers Blow As Galaxy Notes 'Catch Fire'

Wait until more people keep cracking their glass taking it out of their pockets and tapping it on the corners

You don't want to hear a $900 phone have such issues but getting the medias attention and in turn getting samsungs attention....especially when it costs them $7 billion dollars... May incentivize them to fix the main issue and any other possible issues.

I look forward to seeing if later batches we find issues. Apple has made changed after initial start when their butts are lit on fire by media.

That's disheartening to read.

I'm so frustrated by this. I literally just got the US version of the phone. It's been fine so far and the battery life has clearly been an improvement over my S6 edge. I hope that means mine doesn't have a defective battery. 😓

Yeah right now they're saying is those that are in the Korean market where the battery packs were made by a specific manufacturer. Let's hope that all.

I saw this on this
morning's news.
Wow, that's an eye opener. Not what you'd expect for a phone costing as much as this one. But I guess a batch of faulty batteries is possible. Hope they figure it out soon.

Market cap dropping does not cost them $7 billion. Investors holding the stock may have seen their portfolio on paper drop in value but that's it. The stock is trading at or near an all time high even with the drop.

Well, perhaps a good thing out of this would be for Samsung to go back to replaceable batteries. This situation would be many millions less dollars to fix and less customer service issues.

Yeah I know, and on news like this the effect on stock is temporary and it will rebound, but it still gets the attention of the corporate offices and that's good because at least for a day they'll care about checking on the status of the phone... because with media attention it may come back up at earnings if it does have an effect on earnings and they don't make as much as a company like Apple on phones... every phone counts.
