Save Camera Settings?

It seems I can't get the camera to save my altered settings. I want 4:3 ratio and Auto HDR Off. Set them that way, take some pics, and the next time I open the camera they're set back to 16:9 and Auto HDR On.

Am I missing something, or is it really supposed to return to the defaults each time you close it? Seems less than ideal.

Yeh they should have implemented the feature to have presets. However for me i can close and open and settings are as i placed them. Rebooting the phone would probably erase what you done. Not saying you did 😜

This may not relate to your issue, but it might...
I realized the other day that the front camera and the back camera have their own separate settings. So turning HDR Off on the back camera, then flipping over to the front camera, results in the front camera still having HDR Auto set. Flash, aspect ratio, etc are all different too. You have to set them the way you want them on each camera.

If that doesn't fix your problem, I'm really not sure...my settings stay.

On Verizon is stays the way you set it. I have HDR set to off and it stays that way. Just now opened and set to 4:3 took a couple pictures, closed app and made sure it was closed. Opened it back up and the setting where still 4:3 with HDR off. Turned phone off and back on (I knew this would not reset it but since it was stated above) and settings where still set 4:3 with HDR off.

Don't know what version you have so it made be different.

On a side note. You do know with the camera set at 4:3 it is just cropping the picture while you are taking it. So you are shooting with less MPs. I just shot in the preset setting and than crop later if I want to.

Thanks. I also have the Verizon version. I figured that maybe what I was noticing was due to it changing after a reboot (which I would still not expect it to do), but if yours didn't, then that isn't it either. I just checked it again and it's back to the defaults (I did definitley reboot earlier tonight...but I'm not certain that's always been the case).

As for the aspect ratios, 4:3 is the higher resolution ratio.

No sir, on the G2 and I think G3 (but not sure about the G3) that was the case because the camera was set as default to shot 4:3. But on the G4 it is set at 16:9.

Do a test, shot a picture at both settings and check the details. The 4:3 picture is cropped therefore the resolution is lower.

I thought it was fairly universal (not just the prior LG line) that 4:3 was higher resolution previously. Here's an older thread here on the forums that sums up what I've seen in a lot of other places (and recently):

http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/298699-photo-taking-16-9-4-3-best-results.html

So, is it no longer the norm that 4:3 is the better option, or is this just an LG change? My Motos (Razr Maxx HD, Maxx, Turbo) had 16:9 as the default as I recall, but were still higher resolution at 4:3 (MP for each setting on those phones were actually listed).

I have a hunch my settings issue may be tied to the SD card. Not that I am seeing issues with the SD card otherwise, but since the setting is to save the pics to the SD card, and those can be wonky even when nothing is necessarily "wrong," I'm thinking that's the culprit. I'm going to try setting things and saving to the device and see if the phantom settings changer goes way.

I have no idea about the other phones. But I do know the default ratio for the G4 is 16:9. So in order to get the 4:3 it crops the two ends.

If default ratio is 4:3 like they are talking about in the thread you posted than it crops the top and bottom to make a 16:9 picture.

I am not sure why LG did it this way with the G4. Even in one of either a hands on or review here on AC they explained it because the MP is not listed in the camera app.

Unless the default ratio in the Turbo isn't what the camera comes set to out of the box (and then I don't know what "default" would even mean in that case), the default was also 16:9 for that phone. In fact, I just cleared the data on mine to make sure I was recalling correctly. Yet, as you can see in the screenshot (I took it before I reset the data), the standard cropping is higher resolution:

So, something isn't adding up here for me. I did see Jerry's mention in his AC camera tips article that 16:9 was better, but frankly I need more info as to why that is true when it hasn't previously been (the default doesn't seem to matter), and there has always been cropping to alter the ratio..

The full resolution pics on the G4 are 16:9, cropped is 4:3. That is the OPPOSITE of the G3. :)

That's what tx_tuff already said. I'm not convinced (with no offense intended to either of you). It goes against everything I've seen previoussly, including that my Moto cameras also had 16:9 as the default and 4:3 was still higher resolution. I haven't seen anything yet that actually documents this significant change. Can you direct me to a link or something that corroborates this?

Your Moto's default setting is 16:9, that's the setting. Doesn't mean that is the default ratio. Two different things.

Like I said the easiest way to see for yourself is take pictures in both settings. Than go to details of the photos and you will see which one is bigger.

OK. I took as, much as possible, identical shots with the Turbo with both ratios and the G4 with both ratios. You're right that the 16.9 shot with the G4 is the larger file of the 2. On the Turbo, the 4:3 is the larger file.

I'm convinced. Sorry to be a pain about this, guys. I'm a little confused why this wouldn't be more widely promoted, or at the very least, that the MP would be on the settings as it is on other phones. At least we'd then wonder about it.

Thanks for setting me straight.

5312x2988=16x9
3984x2988=4x3
16x9 is the default highest resolution. Anything else is cropped from that. G3 was the other way around.
