If you right press on the name of someone you've been texting, you get the option to "save messages." Well, I have one that I NEED to save but it's not saved in it's entirety, maybe only about 3/4 of the messages in the thread. What gives and how to I save an entire (long) message? Thank you.

How about a screen shot?

Are you using the stock Messaging app? If so, I imagine that you mean "if you long-press on a name"...
When you save a particular thread, what is missing? You do realize that only SMS are saved; no MMS (picture messages; group messages).
If you have some really long threads perhaps you need to bump up the Text message limit (default is 200)

Yes, I'm only trying to save SMS by long-pressing the name. There are no pictures or group messages. It cuts off the last 2-3 days of messages, the most important. I can do a screenshot of those I suppose, but I'm still wondering if there is something I can do prevent this from happening. I've opened the saved message to several different file formats, and it's always the same.

I just noticed your suggestion about upping the Text message limit. I will try that. Thank you.

Tried upping the Text message limit, nothing changed. I suppose I"m going to have to take screen shots of all those text messages. I sincerely appreciate everyone's help!

At least with the screenshots you can have backups of those.

I discovered an alternative way to save the texts. A lot faster than individual screen shots, though not as pretty.

Instead of long-pressing the name, open a message and hit the menu button. Tap on Save messages, and then tap the check boxes. You can "Select all" however, due to the length of what I'm trying to save, all the messages won't be saved into a single file. So I did it in several steps, selected 5-6 messages, saved them and gave each a unique identifying name, for example: subject_1, subject_2, etc.

If someone knows of a more elegant way to accomplish this, I'd like to know. However, for now, this works for me.

Thanks everyone for you input.

That's probably as close to what you want as you can get. But at least you have a couple options for saving.

You can also save Text and MMS using Samsung Kies.

I've read a little about Kies but don't understand fully it's benefits. I think I have to sign up for yet another account to use it. I have enough accounts. But maybe I'm missing something. Is it a worthwhile app to use?

You don't have to sign up for anything to use the Kies software on your PC.
Just install it (the first time you run it it'll update to the latest version), connect your phone (the OS will install the necessary drivers) and then choose what you want to backup.
