As far as I know, you will either need to install Windows on bootcamp or a virtual machine. I was thinking about WINE which would allow you to run apps natively but I doubt the drivers would work.
Virtual machine would probably be the easiest option, VirtualBox is free as well.
That's what I was worried about. Dad has a copy of Vista, I guess I'll just do the Boot camp thing. GB is nice, but I keep getting random reboots, and I'm content with Froyo until the kinks are worked out.
I'm a Mac guy, and I have Windows set up on VMWare...I would not reccomend trying to SBF flash using any kind of virtual machine...There is something about the virtual USB Host controller that causes issues with certain devices...in this case, I had a problem updating multiple blackberries and my Droid X...Bricked my X by doing it...
Using Bootcamp is your best bet if you dont have a dedicated windows machine since you have full hardware support instead of virtual drivers etc...
I use a virtual machine of Ubuntu with VMWare Fusion and can flash flawlessly. Just make sure to set up VMWare to automatically connect your Droid X to the virtual machine and not OSX.
is there any possible way to permanently brick a phone without say undervolting so much that it can't boot? I have lost power while SBFing and got a full system corruption and still managed to recover after charging the battery… so I really don't feel any lack of confidence in fixing anything
Just curious as if it is possible
