Scale image for home screen? Do I have to crop?

I perused the forums and couldn't find relevance to this issue. I am trying to put a picture as my lock and home screen but it crops the image to a point where I can't see all I want. Any fix or work around?

I use QuickPic as a gallery replacement app and it handles wallpaper setting much better than the stock app.
