Android Central Question

I noticed 3 quite visible scratches on the glass portion covering the rear camera lens, likely caused by sand. They appear not to affect photo quality, though I'm worried it might become a problem if the scratches fill up with dirt and/or dust.
Is there any way to fix those scratches without further damaging the glass? I've seen toothpaste might work, but I wanted to know if it's a safe and working way to fix the problem.
Any ideas?

Toothpaste would take the coating off the lens.
