Screen Activation When connecting/disconnecting the charging cord

I just got my new Pixel 2XL yesterday and really liking it so far. I read a post earlier this week over on Droid Life about how one of the "nice touches" on the Pixel 2 devices now is that the screen won't turn on/light up when connecting/disconnecting the charging cord now, though it does still use the ambient display to show the message at the bottom of the screen that the phone is charging.

Is this a setting somewhere that I haven't found yet? The article doesn't mention that aspect and my phone seems to act the "old" way where the screen still lights up when connecting/disconnecting the charger.

Or is this something that is in beta currently for a future build??

ok, the title should just say CHARGING cord, not "chrome" cord...... IDK what one of those would be lol

Starting to wonder if this was just a fluke for Kellen over on Droid-Life or what the deal is here. Is this really NOT a new "feature" for the Pixel 2 phones?!?

What I have found is if the Ambient Display feature is enabled and set to always on, the screen will not turn on when the charging cable is plugged into the phone. If Ambient Display is turned off, the screen will turn on when the cable is plugged in. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, what you're explaining makes sense. Guess I'll have to check it out that way. I have elected to NOT have Ambient Display set to Always On, but to just activate when I pickup the phone instead. Bummer that they've tied this screen activation when connecting the charger to that particular setting. Would certainly be a nice "feature" to add to have more direct control of that within the display settings. Kind of agree with Kellen that it's a bit annoying to have the screen fully activate just because you plugged the phone in, especially when in the dark.

No problem. I agree, it would be nice to have the option independent of the Ambient Display setting.
