This seems like a simple thing to fix but I cannot figure it out for the life of me. When I am using Google Navigation for turn by turn directions and I try to turn the screen off to conserve battery life on long stretches of road it automatically turns right back on in less than a second. No matter how many times I try to turn the screen off it comes right back. I know I was able to turn off the screen on my Incredible so this is new to me. Any suggestions since there are no settings for this in the Maps or Navigation apps?

buy a car charger?

I believe thats just the navigations default settings to always be awake.

if you hit home then lock ur phone it will stay locked with nav still running. as for it prompting directions from the home screen....I dont know.

good luck

Yeah. The only way that I know is just to leave the navigation running in the background. On long stretches I just hit home and then it will shut off on the normal display timeout that you have set.

If your in navigation and hit Home it will still be working in the background so you will need to exit navigation. So while in navigation you have to hit HOME>EXIT NAVIGATION to turn it off. It works that way so you can make and receive phone calls during navigation if needed.

+1

Good point. I am used to the Windows HTC Sense app which disables Nav when you purposely lock the screen. It does not "time-out" the screen, it will continue as long as you don't purposely lock the screen with the power button. This behavior has changed with HTC Sense in the TBolt. However, as you say, I agree that it is probably because they want you to easily accept and make calls during the navigation.

hehe

I do understand that hitting the home button will not "exit or stop" navigation and that I can shut the screen off from there. What I was getting at was when I had my Incredible I could stay on the navigation screen and hit the power button to turn the screen off on long stretches and when I turned the screen back on it was still on the navigation screen. It was convenient because I did not have to unlock the screen (main lock screen) and then pull down the status bar and then click the navigation to see the map again if a turn was coming up. I was just curious why it is different on the Thunderbolt and you can't just turn the screen off during navigation without hitting home and actually locking the phone. I guess it is just one of those little differences between HTC phones...

It seems to turn off the display just fine for me when I am in Navigation...

I remember being able to turn the screen off by hitting the power button without backing out to the home screen. I did it multiple times on my car trip two weeks ago. This was on a car charge...if it makes a difference. I doubt it.
