screen goes black causes many problems

I have a Motorola Triumph. I'm new to android phones and was learning to use it, but now after I dial, the screen goes black and I can't hang up. Can't get voice messages because I can't enter my password on a blank screen. If I make a mistake in trying to remove a call from the call log and the phone dials instead of letting me delete the call from the log, the screen goes black and I can't hang up except by remove the battery. The phone is not particularly useful this way. Help appreciated.

the only thing i could really tell you is to return it if you can as this seem as a mayor problem. you may also want to root and install cm7 to see if that helps in case you cant return your phone. just note that even with a new phone, youll still have to deal with many other issues so cm7 seems as the best option so far for os problem solution, but no much luck with harware. what a shame from motorola?!
