Screen goes to sleep but actually turns off tablet

So when my screen turns off nothing I press turns tablet back on. I have to press power button for 2 seconds to bring tablet back on. Had many samsung phones and tablets never have I experienced this. Any one else and if so any solution? I have checked settings can't find nothing.

Is it in a case with a smartcover?

No. Just got it while setting up

When you press the Power button to turn it back on, does it just wake up like it was asleep, or does it go through the whole boot process?

If the tablet is brand new, I wouldn't spend too much time trying to fix it -- bring it back to the store for an exchange or refund.
