Screen keeps turning off when using phone

My screen keeps turning off when I use my phone, I have to press the power button on the side to get the screen back on again. This seems to happen more when I am playing games, but also when I am writing a text message. I have brought a replacement battery, which has not helped. I am a complete ***** when it comes to technology, so will need clear instructions or help please.

Welcome to Android Central! Try booting into Safe Mode, and see if the problem recurs. Safe Mode will disable all apps besides system apps. If the random screen shutoffs stop, then there's something that you installed that is interfering. The challenge will be to find out which one.
