Screen Lock and Sleep Questions

As a novice to Android I'm trying to understand some of characteristics and in some cases how to change them.

On this phone, it seems that the display winks out fairly quickly than I need to push the button and swipe the screen to get back to what I was doing. It would be handy to eliminate at least one of those actions....no idea why both are needed.

On my old BB Storm all I had to do was touch the screen to wake it up. Any way to make the Maxx a bit more like this.

Both are necessary... and in some cases people actually use an unlock code to open it in addition to the swipe of the screen.

If you think it, as you say, "winks out" too quickly then change the timeout time.

There is also an app called Elixir which has a lock enable/disable toggle which lets you disable it when you're using it and enable it when you're not (like when it's in your pocket).

Also has a ton of other useful toggles.
