All-

I've had a number of instances where the screen has not come back on after pulling the phone away from my face while on a phone call. This is quite irritating, as some times I dont want to leave a voicemail, but I pull the phone away to hang up and the screen stays dark! No, my fingers are not covering the proximity sensor. This only happens a small majority of the time, and hitting the power button brings the screen to life immediately. Any ideas?

Yea mine did this to me today...after the conversation was over, i took it away from my face to hang up...and the screen stayed black. i tried hitting a bunch of buttons, but nothing worked. ended up doing a battery pull....but hasent happened before this instance, or since.

+1 ... (it happens a lot on mine! :))

i had this once in a while, but if i hit the power button the screen comes on..

if that doesn't work, i slide out the keyboard, that ALWAYS prompts the screen to come on, for me that is..

I have been having this issue a lot lately. Really annoying. Seems to be a common problem on multiple Droid forums.

I have the lockscreen enabled and after hitting the power button to re-enable the screen I also have to punch that in, then hit dialpad, then hit end.

So thats four buttons to hang up a call.

You know I have read threads about this on various forums and was put off by it. However I went ahead and got the Droid anyways and have NEVER ran into this problem. Sooo, either I'm lucky or some people got some bad prox sensors. Everytime I pull the phone away from my face I wonder if it will be the time that I fall into this category, but nope always comes right back on!

Yes hitting the power button does bring the screen back on but this s an extra and unwanted step. So its clear this is not an isolated issue as many others are having the same problem. How do we go about getting it solved. Seems software related. Maybe the Dec ota update will being us a fix?

Happened to me also today. Strangely enough I was on the phone with the local Verizon store. I took the phone away from my face and there was a dark screen. Touched the power button, nothing. Slid out the keyboard, nothing. Held the power button down for 30 seconds, nothing. All through this the led was flashing. I had to do a battery pull to get it back. This was the first time it happened. Occasionally there is a slight delay on hanging up.

I'm lobbying for a developer to come up with an app that uses the camera button as a physical end call button. It doesn't seem to be used by anything when the camera is not in use. This might also solve some of the problems in this thread.

Yea this has only happened to me one time (I posted about it a day or so ago on this post). The sensor works great, as does the phone....except for that one time! hope its the last too!

What kind of screen protector do you have? or is it naked?. I noticed that "some" screen protectors seem to filter light and gets the device confused. I have not had that concern on my unit. what are your screen "timeout" settings? try to keep the screen NEVER to turn OFF and try that first, from then on you can start changing settings just where you want it.

I have no screen protector, and the timeout set to 1 minute
I hate to say it I think you just need to wipe it clean (donot re-install any programs you got thru Market YET) and then try. IF that fails you have an hardware issue which I am sure needs a replacement. If it does NOT fail install one app at a time and see which is the cuplrit.

Good idea. At this point I'm not too worried about it since its only happened once, but I'm gonna keep my eye on it
