When I receive a new text the screen comes on. I don't want that to happen because when I grab it from my pocket I hit emergency dialer every time. Plus the screen coming on just plain annoys me. Sorry for my lack of explanation.

What app are you using to send texts because I don't think there is an option for the screen to turn on when receiving a text in the stock messaging app.

My GS3 sleeps in the bed and my girlfriend sleeps on the couch.

Ah the stock app on the GS3 doesn't do this but I use gosms for that same option (it drives me nuts) As well as a few other perks, I'd check it out its free

That's what I was afraid of. I had gosms on my bionic but something about it rubbed me the wrong way after months of use and went back to stock messaging. So either ill deal with the screen on or I'll re download gosms. Thanks for the help.

I cant remember how but you can adjust the length of time it comes on for when you receive a text. I have mine set to like a second or two so that while pulling the phone I dont hit the emergency dialer. I think the dialer is removable no?
