Screen Protector?

oddly enough - I got a protector for my Huawei Watch (the OG one), which had a stainless steel "lip" above the screen that itself was quite durable being a Sapphire glass. On my Pixel Watch - it's going 'naked', at least for now.

I know myself and the number of times I've 'clinked' the edge of my Samsung and Huawei watches against things over the years. With that now being glass instead of aluminum or stainless steel, I've gone ahead and ordered a Ringke protector to cover the edge (but not the display section).

That's due in in about a week - but I have no idea when the watch is shipping... Once I have both I'll post images and thoughts.

Following up now that I have the Watch (thanks, Google!). I wore it the first 24 hours and managed to avoid that feared 'clink' of the glass bezel hitting anything that would scratch/chip/crack, but this morning decided to remove a little bit of anxiety and applied the Ringke Slim Case (the package came with two - a clear and a matte black), opting for the matte black to better match the matte black case of my Watch; the clear protector might be a better option for the watch with the polished silver/champagne gold case

Pros:

  • Installation was foolproof and took about 3 seconds, and removing it takes about 5
  • Fit is perfect, with cutouts for dial, button, speakers, and band release buttons
  • Swiping is not impacted at all
  • Slim polycarbonate design doesn't add any bulk physically or visually

Cons:

  • Assistant button is slightly more recessed. I didn't have issues pressing it before, and don't notice a difference myself now, but if you have difficulty pressing it on the bare watch this could make it a tiny bit tougher
  • Likewise, the rotating dial doesn't protrude quite as much. Again, this is presenting me with no issues, but any who have issues now, this could possibly exacerbate it
  • Negates the 'polished stone' look

All in all, for the price, I very highly recommend it. Images below with both versions installed:

Well, my Gear S3 is now losing power after about half a day - suddenly did this in the last four or so days. But I've also noticed that I've managed to snag or bash the S3 on a counter, fridge and some other stuff in the last few days. Maybe I'm more conscious of it since I've been thinking of the Pixel Watch. I would hate to bash a new bezel-less watch. So, do folks think that these Ringke protectors (or others) will really do a good job of preventing a bashed glass/crystal on these fairly exposed watch faces? Have there been any drop tests of both the bare and "protected" (by any manufacturer) faces?

I'm coming from a Watch 3, and prior to that a Huawei Watch. Both of those had metal bezels, and while neither ever developed any scratches or other blemishes on them, it's not for lack of opportunity... I'd rather run the Pixel Watch naked, but it's just not worth the risk for me. For those who are less prone to exposing their watch to incidental impact, it's probably not worthwhile, but I think it will definitely offer some protection if it is hit against something.

Kind of like how a screen protector may not save a phone from a big hit, but can definitely crack or scratch and leave the actual display unharmed from a lighter one, or series of lighter ones. That said, I am not going to the extent of putting a film screen protector on as well...
