now after my father got this phone and I compared the screen to the screen on my Droid X and then to my Thunderbolt I have become increasingly obsessed with screens seeing how nice this screen was, well last night I bought a Samsung droid charge

Now I figured the screen would look just as good if not better then this phone but I dont find it to be any better then any of my other phones? I put the same movie on each phone to test the quality so there was nothing different.

What makes this phones screen look so much better then other samsung phones?

The movie was Avitar avi file

thanks

The screens on most Samsung phones is Super Amoled (SAMOLED for short) or SAMOLED+. The Droid Charge has the better (SAMOLED+) where the Captivate has just the SAMOLED. SAMOLED screens look brighter, have better blacks (videos), and seemingly a higher contrast. It is what drew me to a Samsung phone as well, and will probably take me there again unless someone comes up with something better.

As to why the Charge does not look as good as the Captivate... I can't say. It should be mostly identical, with clearer text on the Charge (maybe some other small changes). Possibly the increased pixel density is causing a difference in colors? I have not seen a SAMOLED+ screen yet personally.

I suppose it is possible if the Captivate has a custom ROM on it, it may have the Voodoo color optimizations on... but I don't think those help with video. It should be the same or better on the Charge... but any SAMOLED screen is superior to the rest, with the possible exception of the screen on the iPhone. Which I would still call equivalent, not better, despite the higher resolution. As you note, and most everyone that sees them, the screens on the Captivate look great.
