Screen Reflective Coating

Coming from the Watch 4 Classic, the 44mm Watch 5 has a reflective screen coating on it that the classic did not. What's the purpose? Seems to be a little visually distracting in comparison.
 
Is it a coating, or is it just the saphire crystal?

Either way you're not wrong, it is very shiny.
 
I think it's just the differences between glass (gorilla) and sapphire.

I noticed side by side that the sapphire made the GW5 look less black. And it does technically make it a little harder to see in certain lighting angles. Often there's an anti-glare coating added to sapphire on analog watches. Not sure they've added it to the GW5.
