Screen timeout disables itself?

So I have my screen timeout set to three minutes. It seems to work for a while, then various system events will occur or I will put it on the charger and the screen will no longer timeout. When I go into Settings-Display-Screen timeout, the radio button has gone from 3 minutes to ()...not '0' but two parentheses. (There is no '0'.)

What would cause it to simply change itself, i.e. disable itself? I want it to timeout even when on a charger.

Well never mind. I feel like an idiot. I forgot I had an app installed called "Stay Awake" that I had set to keep the screen on while charging. I disabled it.

I used to like to have the screen on all the time while charging, but I've noticed some slight burn in.

if you don't mind my asking, why do you need the screen on so long? The has been a few complaint of ghosting due to images burning in and I would think leaving the screen on that long would be more apt to produce ghosting. Not to mention what this does to battery life.
