This is very annoying and it happens randomly on my gs4. The phone is lying and just suddenly unlocks. It's under warranty so I gave it for repair they changed the screen but it didn't help. I installed lookout thinking its some kind of a virus but that dint help either. Any kind of help would be appreciated

Try a hard reset on yours... It would resolve the issue. But yes note that a hard reset would wipe the data off your device. So have a backup instead

Before trying a hard reset I'd check if any of the Air Gestures for the lockscreen aren't active; these can trigger the screen to turn on if it detects something in the proximity sensor. Also, check that you don't have any apps that can interact with the lockscreen like PopUp Notifications or NoLED or even Whatsapp if it's set up to show iOS-like pop-ups.

A hard reset was wht I had done before giving it to Samsung. It worked fine for some days. Then it happened again.

I've kept all air gestures off just in case still this problem persists.

have given it to samsung. they said they will replace any defected part but wont replace it :S. How sad such a big co. saying tht. But atleast they are doing that.

That's consistent with their warranty language, at least within the U.S.

I have found the solution after experiencing a similar problem myself. What happened is the phone thinks it has the s view cover on. When there is a change in light setting it thinks the s view cover was opened so it unlock the phone for you. To disable this feature you would go to Settings > Accesory > unchecked Automatic unlock.

Cheers!

I found another possible source of the random wake-ups. Not sure about the Zenfone 5, but on the Zenfone 2 there's a feature (on by default) which wakes the phone up if you tap on the screen twice. Which happens all the time if it's in my pocket. Or if it's in a bag bumping against things. To turn this off go to settings> ZenMotion> Touch Gesture and turn off "Screen On." Might as well turn off "Screen Off" as well while you're at it...
