Screen won't turn off

For about 2 weeks, I have been waking up to a partially charged phone. This had happened in the past, but very infrequently. I didn't install any new apps around this time, but the play store update may have been at this time. I use the stock charger and cable. Phone is rooted but using the stock ROM.

This morning, my screen was on when I went to unplug the phone. I turned the screen off and it immediately turned back on. I did this about 10 times. I unplugged the phone and I could turn the screen off. I plugged the phone back in and again, I could not turn the screen off. No apps were running that would be unusual. Usage stats didn't show anything abnormal.

Anyone experience anything like this?

I've been having similar issues. What happens if you try to play around with the base of the usb cable, where it's plugged into the rest of the charger? I think the problem is coming from there but I'm not 100% sure.

It's a longshot, but make sure you don't have "stay awake" checked in developer options. Otherwise, running a custom kernel? Either way, it's sounds kernel related to me, so since you're rooted, flash a new kernel. Would highly recommend Franco's kernels (M2 if you're not into nightlies). Lot's of benefits to a custom kernel.

Have you tried rebooting the phone. It's like any computer...every once in a while it gets jammed up with some app and needs a full reboot. Hold the power button down until it shuts off (maybe 10 seconds).

I can't see why it would charge for some period of time and then have issues but I will pay more attention to the cable to make sure that isn't the problem.

Yeah, I have the developer options turned off. Since I may be doing a reset, I will look at Franco's kernals.

Yeah, one night I actually rebooted right before I went to bed but still woke up having issues.

Thanks you all for your suggestions. I appreciate it.

In case anyone cares, I disabled automatic updates from the Play Store (since the Play Store update occurred around the time this problem started) and my phone was reading 100% battery today when I woke up.

This didn't work on night two......
