Scrolling Lost its mind

I was wondering if anyone was having a similar problem...

Very often when i'm in messages, if i scroll up on the conversation, it will start to scrolll up then just snap down to the bottom of the conversation. I keep scrolling up but the phones just keeps autoscrolling back down to the bottom

I tried battery pulls and resets and it didn't resolve anything, does anyone have any solution??

I have the issue when looking into contacts info, sometimes messages.

I scroll down to view more of the info/text and it will scroll down, then snap back up to the top without me touching it.

I wonder if this is a lag issue or if i should get my evo swapped or something...unless someone knows a solution

i'm having the same problem too

i saw a different thread in the Desire forum where another person was having the same issue so it doesn't seem unique to the EVO but i don't think there's a reason or solution

I haven't had this issue. Do you guys use screen protectors? Perhaps their is something wrong with the way you applied it.

i do have a screen protector...but i guess before i take it off, does anyone else have one on their phone? my roommate got an EVO same day and hasn't noticed this problem and he has a screen protector as well

I've been lurking here for weeks, and joined when I saw this thread because mine was doing the same thing. When you're scrolling, are you touching the very right edge of the screen by any chance? I just happened to notice a little scroll bar right on the edge of the screen. Apparently, I was catching that causing it to scroll in the opposite direction that I wanted. I haven't had a single issue since I noticed it. HTH!!

nope. no screen protector on mine. and i'm also not hitting the right edge. i feel like it's a software problem i dont know though. i've just experienced it in text message conversations. wondering if i should exchange it for another evo or if its a common problem

on the G1 when i have a long text thread and i am reading one of the older messages, it goes back to the bottom when a new text comes in. are you getting a new text when this happens? this didn't happen with handcent sms app tho. my evo arrives tomorrow. can't wait!

nope unfortunately. i try scrolling up and it just naps to the bottom of the conversation and lags up a bit

try an sms replacement app. i saw people post on here that they don't see handcent sms which is a shame cuz its really cool. chompsms maybe.

ok, to add my two cents back in...i am using a screen protector as i said before, but i realized i am ONLY having this problem when i'm in the messages screen, everything else scrolls just fine so i don't think it's the protector.

i tested to see where i'm scrolling in case i am hitting something but i can go right in the middle of the screen and still get the jump back down to the bottom of the conversation.

i HAVE had it do it when i get a new text while in the conversation BUT more often than not i'm just looking back in the history and not getting any new texts when this happens.

i don't want to have to download an sms app to have this work right and it's frustrating because the phone is brand new.

if anyone goes to replace theirs, let me know how that goes. again, as i said, my roommate got one same day and doesn't seem to have the same issue (at least not yet)


UPDATE: i might have solved this problem. i went to settings>system updates and then seriously just updated each thing (firmware, profile, prl and htc software). some didn't have updates and others did i think but so far since doing that i can scroll just fine. now, my phone sometimes has let me scroll without issues, so maybe this is just a fluke but feel free to try it out and see if anyone else gets resolution

UPDATE UPDATE: total fluke, i'm back to having it skip again so you may want to forgo the updates

I am having the same issue :/ and it's only when I am in messaging that it happens.... I have a feeling its software related too, anyone think it's worth a return and get a new one? We have 30 days dont we?

i just calibrated the phone and it seems to have fixed the problem finally.


UPDATE: never mind.....problem just happened again. i feel like this is a common problem i don't know if i should even bother exchanging it

i did a factory settings reset thinking maybe an app i had downloaded had caused the glitch, but that didn't seem to fix anything :S

i might head back to see my radio shack guys (they were super awesome and knowledgable..but the manager is out this week for his honeymoon) and/or the sprint store to see if they have any info

In the mean time I installed ChompSMS app and it works great, I can scroll with no problems, so it must be something with the stock messaging app

called sprint and they say it's not a known issue...had me power off the phone and they sent some info to it. didn't solve the problem so they set me up with a help ticket for a sprint repair store (problem being nothing within 50 miles of me so this will have to wait until next week). she said if they can't fix it and it's software related, they probably will ask me to hold onto the phone until there is a fix but if it's hardware related they would replace the phone.

so, for the time being, that's where i'm at. i'll post again once i go to the repair store i guess unless someone has a resolution before that.

i'm not opposed to using a 3rd party app but it's just frustrating that something that is native to the phone and should work isn't

I just noticed having the problem too. Needed something from an old text and couldn't scroll w/o it snapping back to the bottom overtime. Does HTC have a support page or something where we can ask this question?
