SD card as adoptable internal storage not an option?

Is it true that apps have to be internal storage? How is everyone using their external storage then?

I bought the smaller 16 gig Z300M P00C, since sd cards can be formatted as adoptable internal storage in Marshmallow. The tablet's e-manual even says apps can be stored on the SD card (which I assume means run from there). But, I just found document ZenUI Features Change in Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the ASUS website which says "marshmallow no longer supports app2sd function." And when I formatted my SD card, the option for internal storage was missing.

Unfortunately, all my print materials and podcasts need to be stored with their apps, so I'm out of room before I even download them.

Not all devices support the Move to SD feature (which I think is the app2sd function that you mentioned). Move to SD only moves a portion of the app to the SD card anyway. I'm not sure why they removed the feature -- perhaps it was too glitchy.

Adoptable Storage is a Marshmallow feature, but it's up to the manufacturer to implement it in their build, and not all manufacturers decided to do it (like Samsung and LG). Probably one of the main reasons for this was the bigger potential for crashes related to poor SD card quality -- the memory chips used for consumer cards are generally low quality, even for well-known brand names. And some devices seem to implement it poorly, like Moto. There are quite a few threads here about faulty memory management on Moto devices when trying to use an adopted SD card.

I've had some success. I think these newspaper, magazine, and video apps were installed before I bought an SD card, so I factory reset the Zenpad 10, reformatted the card, and then installed all apps. Looks like each app’s setting options dictate if it's media can be stored externally or must stay with the app. No apps can be moved to the card.

In case others are interested: BeyondPod, Netflix, and PressReader downloaded media can be stored on the card, also items you own on Nook. Overdrive library Nook items and Zinio for Libraries magazines cannot. Thanks BD!

Hoopladigital.com downloaded media can also be sent to SD card.
