SD card drains battery even when plugged in

My Verizon Ally Android 2.2.1 has recently started draining the battery any time I re-install the SD card. It does it even when the phone is plugged in. I have been using it w/o the SD card since it is such a huge problem. I have uninstalled all apps & widgets, yet it still drains the battery if the SD card is in.

Do you have a different card that you can try in your phone? Could be a bad SD card.
