Hi,

This probably isn't an S8-specific question per se, but I just got one and coming over from an LG G4. I had a 200gb microSD card in the G4 with all my music and some photos on it. When I put it in the S8, everything is there but the card seems to be read-only. I took the card out and put it in my computer, and it's the same thing - read only. Only when I put the card back in the G4 can I add or remove files from the card.

How can I format the card to use with J the S8? I've backed everything up, so not concerned with having to format it if I can't just plug and play, but how do I get the card out of read-only mode now?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried formatting it on your S8? There's a option to do so.

2 things... #1 you cannot write to the sd card unless you are using the FACTORY installed file explorer! Not sure what that is exactly (havnt played with my s8 yet) but due too root access, only the factory software is able to write to the memory card. #2 you cannot install apps to it unless you make it an adoptable storage enabled. Since this was disabled on my lg g4 verizon I don't know where this toggle is..somewhere in storage I imagine. May need a reformat.

I just confirmed that I can write to my SD card using FX Explorer (I did have to allow write access for FX).

I actually use the Cheetah Sync app to sync a folder (with subfolders) from my computer to my SD card -- I have a Samsung 256GB card that I got via a promotion when I bought my S7 Edge. Yeah, back when the promotion was free and they actually HAD some stock to give away. At any rate, I just moved my card from the S7 Edge to my new S8+, and set up my usual sync job -- and it worked just fine. So, my card is definitely not "read only" to at least the Cheetah Sync app....
