SD card read-only scared the heck out of me

My TBolt ain't getting any younger and it has been through some UIT's (unplanned impact tests) so when I went to open an app yesterday and got an error from my ESEC security app that the SD card wasn't mounted I dug a little deeper and under Settings>SD & Phone Storage I see the dreaded 29.7GB capacity, 24.1GB free .... Dun-Dun-Dun-Dahhhhhh .... Read ONLY!

I'm hoping above all hope it's the card and not the TBolt unable to address it. I yanked the 8GB card out of my Canon camera and popped it in. Thank heaven the phone read it no problem. WHEW! So I took the 32GB from the TBolt, popped it into my PC, copied everything to the PC and then tried to run my disk repair software on the card. No go. Tried to reformat the card. Fail. Into the trash it went.

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed the SD card didn't last longer. I've also never gone over 9GB used on it even when I converted a movie with HandBrake and loaded it up to watch which was almost 2GB. I know many people store a lot on their SD cards but I just saw no need to replace the 32GB card with another one at this time. Grabbed a 16GB Class 10 SanDisk at Fry's for $11.88 and all is right with the world. Brought it home, popped into PC, copied everything to the new card, stuck it in TBolt, booted up, happy as a clam. All apps and data there.

I was glad the old card had enough juice left in it to let me copy everything off. I do use My Backup Pro but I only upload what's on the phone memory to online storage. I back up apps, photos, etc to the SD card itself in case I accidentally delete something. I think I'm going to be a bit more diligent about just copying my SD card to my PC on a regular basis from now on.

OK, I know. TLDR and the issue isn't limited to TBolt owners. Just thought I'd share with my fellow TBolt users since many of us have devices about the same age so I figured the problem might start cropping up among other owners.

Let me be the first to wish you all a Safe and Happy 4th of July everybody!

Happy 4th to you too and thanks for the heads-up! :-)

Glad you could retrieve your data and that it's not the phone with the problem.
