Sd card won't work

I bought a SD card and put it in my phone I have a Samsung j 3 2016 and it wasn't recognising it so I bought another one and still it's not recognising it can someone please tell me what the problem could be

Welcome to Android Central! Can your computer detect the cards when you insert them there?

When you insert the card into the phone, do you get a prompt asking if you want to format it?
