Not sure what it its the developers news to crank out roms is it the sdk that was realeSed today? Or is that something different?

This is a great question - one in which I am unfamiliar with. I would ASSUME the SDK is for developers to design applications, and not a source code for an actual device. I think the ROMS will begin once we get source code from Google for the Nexus S/1, or more specifically, for that phone.

Right ^^
The SDK is the software development kit. When they write code, new features will be available to them. So they can start writing new applications that take advantage of new things in 2.3.

The source code for 2.3 is not yet released, AFAIK. The source code is the primary thing ROM makers need. They can compile the source code and get a stock 2.3 ROM which they can work on porting to other devices. It also means they can tweak the source code and build their own "custom" ROM.

So no, the SDK doesn't mean ROM coding can start.

Edit: I guess I was wrong. They apparently ship at least some source code with the SDK, although it's not full 2.3, I have read.

I have a Droid Incredible. Do I have to wait for verizon to release GingerBread to my phone or will Google do it?

Nobody will have Gingerbread for a long time. HTC will have to update it with Sense before they send it to your phone.

Just forget about it for a few months and it'll show up as an update.

The only phones that Google updates themselves, are the Nexus phones. You have to either wait for Verizon and htc to ruin it and release it, or just root and wait for Cyanogen to release it.

You have to wait for it to go through HTC and Verizon first (if you get it at all), unless you plan on installing a custom ROM.

Very true because it will be ruined by any skin or missing features

I used to LOVE Sense. But after rooting and using Senseless ROMs and Cyanogen, and getting hands on with the stuff, I'm SOOO against the skins and crap that carriers put. I understand it's important to them because it can help put one phone over another. You wouldn't catch me dead with anything Touchwiz (no offense) or any variant of Motoblur for example. Sense really drew me in personally. But again, after learning more and getting a true AOSP experience, nothing compares. I wish they could skin these phones in a way that doesn't take away from available storage, slow the phone down or anything else like that. I also think it's complete BS that carries put this garbage apps on the phone (NASCAR) and I can't even remove it unless I root.

I always felt (and wrote in forums) that OEM's should be able to add customizations via widgets only. Let HTC devices get Sense widgets over the stock Android UI. There are a couple of advantages to users here. Everyone gets a similar Android experience and these widgets could still work with home replacements like ADW or LP.

so all the excitement is over rated today then since the source code hasn't been released just announced?
