Search function and 2.2

From what I can tell, the search function on the EVO has become more cumbersome in 2.2 than it was in 2.1. In 2.1 pressing the search magnifying glass seemed to launch HTC's customized search which was basically a universal search depending on the options chosen in the 'Search' settings of the device. If I wanted to search for a contact I would just hit the magnifying glass and start typing a name...and the same for apps, email, etc.

In 2.2 it appears that HTC search has been removed and the only option is Google search. I had to go into the 'Search' settings and re-activate all of the items I would like included in search, however that does not make results appear when searching unless you specifically select what you want to search (ie. People, Settings, etc.). So now if I hit the magnifying glass and start typing a contact name, I do not get any people results, unless I use the search option drop down and select 'People'. So in essence there is now an extra step to get the same results. It does appear that apps, messaging, and Google search results appear without having to select the sub search category.

While I appreciate the option to filter the results down to specific sub-categories when needed, I don't want to take that step every time I search.

Did anyone else notice this?

What are your thoughts?

Did you try tapping the "g" icon and choosing all? I did this and the search function is working the same as it did on 2.1. (though I did have to reconfigure my search targets first)

Yep. No change. I get no 'people' results unless I tap the 'g' icon and select 'people'.

Hmm, and you're sure you chose "people" in the search options? :) It's all working fine for me which is why I'm asking. Yes I can optionally filter my results, but it's not requiring me to do so - I see all results unless I change the filter.

I believe I have figured out the issue.

minsc, do you have 'Web Results' selected as a searchable item in search settings?

When 'Web Results' is selected as a searchable item, the web results take priority over 'People' results and thus do not allow enough room on the initial results screen. By turning off 'Web Results', the 'People' results show just fine without having to drill down.

This obviously is still a pain, because I can't use the search function to do a Google search if I want the other results to show without drilling down.

The real fix would be to allow us to prioritize what order we want the results to appear (ie. put web results at bottom, etc.)

I discovered that I can still enter a search phrase and hit enter and it launches the mobile web search. Still not as intuitive as instant results within the search screen, but it will work.

Ahhh, makes sense I guess. And your guess is correct, I DON'T have web results as a searchable option.
