From what I can tell, the search function on the EVO has become more cumbersome in 2.2 than it was in 2.1. In 2.1 pressing the search magnifying glass seemed to launch HTC's customized search which was basically a universal search depending on the options chosen in the 'Search' settings of the device. If I wanted to search for a contact I would just hit the magnifying glass and start typing a name...and the same for apps, email, etc.
In 2.2 it appears that HTC search has been removed and the only option is Google search. I had to go into the 'Search' settings and re-activate all of the items I would like included in search, however that does not make results appear when searching unless you specifically select what you want to search (ie. People, Settings, etc.). So now if I hit the magnifying glass and start typing a contact name, I do not get any people results, unless I use the search option drop down and select 'People'. So in essence there is now an extra step to get the same results. It does appear that apps, messaging, and Google search results appear without having to select the sub search category.
While I appreciate the option to filter the results down to specific sub-categories when needed, I don't want to take that step every time I search.
Did anyone else notice this?
