Is a security software necessary ? Or is it just a battery drainer?

I've had Lookout Security installed for quite awhile now. Every app, out of the probably 100s of apps I download, it has marked as OK, but I keep it installed just in case. I have noticed no drain on battery life while using it, and it's very unobtrusive.

Eh, I don't use them. I tried out lookout when I first got my phone but I would get alerts about every hour about it using 70% of CPU

It's a good tracking failsafe if the phone is lost or stolen. I do remember having issues with Lookout on CM7 so i switched to the Vipre Mobile Beta its nice because i know its running but i have the notification disabled. The scans do slow the phone down a lot though.
