Here is the how to for Sega Genesis:

Here is the how to for SNES:

For NES emulator download nesoid lite and follow the same directions as the genesis or snes for roms! Enjoy!!

the controls are so bad, that I don't really play it all that much... They need like a joystick type controller!

I agree, software controls are not as responsive a an actual controller. You would benefit with a physical controller, but there are some games that aren't too bad such as sonic. Overall, these games are still fun to play, especially when you have a lot of free time waiting for class or the airport and it brings some nostalgia.

Sonic is just as bad if you actually try to play for time :p Nearly impossible to do the 6-frame spindash.

RPGs are pretty much all it's useful for.

I know this has been asked, but at the moment I can't find any definitive answers...

Do external controllers work on the Evo without Root? Like a Bluetoothed PS3 controller?

If so, how do I make THAT happen for me!? :p

They work without root, but they do not work on the EVO. You will need a new ROM running stock android. HTC Sense breaks the bluetooth system used for controllers. Note that killing/disabling HTC Sense is not enough, it has to be removed from the ROM entirely.

Aaaah, Ok. Thanks!

The only thing I use an Emulator is GameBoid and play games like FF Tactics, Tactics Orge, and Pokemon. Cause you don't need to use the game like a joystick since the on screen D-Pad is horrible to use. I wish the WiiMote App would work on Sense =(

The upcoming Cyanogenmod ROM works with a wiimote which should have enough controls for some games.

any current roms have that feature?

TO everyone who says the controls suck on these emulators. You have to go to to Settings -> Virtual Keypad Settings, then check the "Multi-buttons press" box. This, and the 6/29 OTA make the emulator controllers work extremely well.

I don't really think it's a great idea to have links on the forum that point to YouTube videos that explicitly show and point to a ROM site. Just my opinion. Most of the videogame forums I frequent will ban you for such things.

im pretty sure there's an app that lets you use a wii controller to play these emulator games on your evo. check the marketplace

What does the 6.29 update have to do with it?

Also note: The multi-button press option seems to only be available in the paid version of Snesoid, not the lite version.

that would make sense. Why have a free version and a paid version if its the same app, same features?

I'm waiting and crossing my fingers that HTC will fix the bluetooth stack in Froyo Sense, but not holding my breath. If they don't, I will move over to Cyanogen for this reason only.

They dont even have to fix it, all they have to do is leave Google's bluetooth code ALONE instead of breaking it by trying to add some other useless feature or something!

Imagine a long car trip, set the EVO in your lap or even a car dock on the windshield in front of you and playing SNES with a Wiimote that you brought along, as the passenger of course. That would be MUCH more enjoyable than playing nearly any Android game for the whole trip IMHO, none of them are as enjoyable as a classic SNES title.

Multi button is on the free version under Virtual keypad settings.

My issue is that there is no way to alter the sensitivity of the Dpad. I can't play Tetris Attack or Bust A Move because the cursor skips around all over the place. SNESoid as it is right now is for RPG's only, I'm afraid.

You are correct.

Anyone posting links related to any type of piracy is not allowed here as well. Doing so can result in a banned account.
