Is there any way to get Gingerbread-like text selection (as seen here: Text selection - What's cooking in Android 2.3's Gingerbread release (photos) - CNET Reviews) on the Epic? Those little anchors that you drag to select text could be extremely handy.

I thought I saw this type of text selection before on either the Epic or some other SGS phone, but I can't quite remember what the situation was.

Anybody know if it's possible to have that type of text selection on the Epic?

On the Epic, you can copy text from the stock web browser by holding SHIFT down on the keyboard and dragging on screen. I haven't seen that work in any other applications, so it seems to be specific to the web browser.

I'm not sure if that's close to what you mean.

Selecting text is one time I like having the keyboard on the Epic. I just use shift and arrow keys to select. Then you can use (hold menu)>c for copy, v for paste...

I didn't know about that. That method also works in K9 Mail and Dolphin Browser, I noticed.

What I'm talking about is more iPhone-esque, I guess. It's like that screenshot from Gingerbread indicates, where you have these anchors/bookends that you can easily move with your finger.

One of the best features of HTC's Sense. It's the only thing I missed when I turned in my EVO for an Epic. It worked like a charm- and was way faster and easier to use than the Epic hardware assisted cut and paste.

On dk17 froyo, you had those anchors to select text in the browser. It was sweet. The original galaxy s also has this

I use a program called "copy paste it" on my stock di18 epic - can't remember what it cost, but it was like $5? expensive, but I simply needed a good copy and paste program that could work wherever there was text including a graphic across all programs.

I am not associated with the software company - it works for me.

That must have been what I saw then!

Any idea why DK17 would have it, but a later version of Froyo wouldn't? It seemed very nice!
