I must be missing something obvious here.

When I look straight at my phone before taking a picture, it looks correct - I'm looking into the camera straight on, just like I'm looking into a mirror. But then I take the picture and I'm looking off into the distance! What the heck is going on? I can't find anything in my camera settings.

Am I doing something wrong?

Are you looking at yourself or at the actual camera?

At myself. It does the same thing, whether I look at myself or the camera.

sounds like you're looking at your face, if you look directly at the camera it can't show anything other than that.

I think this was the problem. I was looking directly at myself and not at the camera - which made it look like I was looking off into the distance.

I don't get any difference but I'm only using my eyes to change what I'm looking at
