Welcome to Android Central! Most selfie sticks work by sending a volume button press signal, either by Bluetooth or via a headphone plug. You need to open the Camera, go to its settings, and look for the option to make the volume button be the shutter release. If the camera app doesn't have that option, you could look for a 3rd party app that does.
