selfie wave hand to take picture not working.

i noticed today I'm trying to take selfies and the camera is slow and it's not recognizing my hand most the time to take pictures. i wave my hand a bunch and then when it starts the countdown I'm not ready and not smiling. so i have to try again and after 30 seconds i have to push the button manually. i tried closer to the phone and right up in my face. out of 10 attempts it worked once. this is the 23 ultra.

Did this ever work in the past, or has it never worked at all? Is it dark when you're trying to take the selfies or light?

yes i use it all the time. It's a well lit room or i'm near a lamp. never had problems this much before. i rebooted my phone and it seems to help so far. i know with the newest update things got screwed up like the AOD and i thought I read something about the camera.
