I recently got the moto X pure and I seriously love it. The only moto feature I use is the moto display because I like just reaching for my phone to see the time. The reason I'm thinking of switching it out for the 5x is because I feel like the 5x is more "future proof" with the finger print scanner and USB type c. Better low light camera shots from what I can tell, and way easier to use the nexus with one hand. The other thing would be the support for the nexus I would imagine would be better than for the moto X in the long run I would assume.

Has anyone switched from the 2015 MXPE and are you satisfied as far as battery life and camera are concerned?

I have switched from the MXPE to the 5X. I use my phone's camera to take pictures of things that I need to remember (scenes, events, items of beauty, notes that I wrote that I don't want to carry around, documents that I might need to reference, etc) and I think the photos are very very similar in quality.

I have had the X1, the X2, and the Pure, and I have to say that I really like the 5X. Really, my only huge complaint with the Pure is the size--too big for my small hands.

As for future-proof, I believe the Motorola is on a good path now. Yes, the carrier X2 owners got caught in the transition away from carrier branded devices, but I think that going forward Moto will continue to be quick with OS updates since they'll have a LOT fewer handsets to test and upgrade.

If you like the Pure and it works for you, I think it actually has the edge over the 5X with build quality, features (Moto apps), screen resolution, and the microUSB Turbo charging. It was kind of a pain to buy a bunch of new cables, and you don't get the same charging experience by putting these cables into your existing wall adapters (wall adapter doesn't charge that fast).

I wouldn't. I have the Moto X Pure Edition and I would only go to the 6P if I was to switch.

Sadly I won't let myself switch. I know I'll get marshmallow so dishing out more money right now isn't needed.

I owned a Droid Ultra (same HW/features as the Moto X1) and though I was thoroughly satisfied with the Droid, I went with the Nexus 5x over concern for Android updates. (My Droid was abandoned on KitKat).

What I did want to say is that the Ambient Display feature on the 5X is a poor substitute for Moto Display. When it works, it displays more info than my Droid did. But it's extremely unreliable - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You can vigorously shake the phone and nothing happens. And sometimes when it does respond to touch/movement, it takes a second or two to register the action. The success rate I'm getting waking up the Ambient Display is less than 50%.

I will get used to it, and maybe Google will fix this feature in a future update. But Moto Display was in my mind Moto's best added feature, and if it's important to you, you should probably stick with the MXPE.

Same here.

I wouldn't want the 5X due to the limitations of 32 GB storage, with no microSD card slot. I got the 64 GB Moto X Pure Edition, so I have more storage space even without using a microSD card. I think that a smartphone is more future-proof if it has more storage space.

I'm generally happy with the switch. I use a tablet for most of my media so this means that 32Gb is enough in a phone for me, also it means that I can get away with a 5" phone more often since I'm less likely to be watching much on it.

I found the Moto X Style a bit too large especially 1 handed. I didn't think it looked particularly good, in fact a bit ugly. I always felt that it was fatter than I would have liked (the screen raised above the metal case always made it look fat to me).

I'm with a few other people on the 5x though. I like the size, the experience and pretty much everything in general but would have preferred a 5" premium phone. I thought about the 6P but size and ugliness keep me away.

I don't have any problems with the screen or speed or anything not working so would recommend the 5x if you feel about the Moto in some of the ways I did.

I'm the opposite of you. I have more apps on my phone than on my tablet. The apps I use on my phone are things like store apps (Target, Walmart, Macy's, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, grocery stores, Sam's Club, Walgreens, Plenti, CVS), Android Pay, and banking apps. I wouldn't have any use for those types of apps on a tablet since they only serve a purpose for me when I'm mobile.

I also have a bunch of camera apps on my phone but not on my tablet, since I wouldn't take pictures with a tablet.

I own both the MXPE and the 5X and that would be a tough call to choose just one.

The screen on the MXPE is amazing and the stereo speakers are the best I have ever heard on a mobile phone. I also love the expandable storage, thin bezels and the overall design and build quality; however I wish it was running Marshmallow already.

On the 5X I love the form factor, size and weight. I love the location of the fingerprint scanner and the camera is excellent. It fits in the pocket perfectly and is much easier to use one-handed. Plus, getting updates first is great...6.0 is awesome.

Both are fantastic... Just decide which features you value more.

I think there's more positives in the moto for me. Moto display, SD card, the front speakers are so good. The fingerprint scanner does nothing for me so it would really be just a switch for a better camera and easier one handed use but, how much better is the camera really? Probably just stick with the moto for now

I am going back to my Pure. I have had the 5X for a week now and there are too many small things that I dont like about it to keep it. I fired up my Pure again and immediately liked it more. My biggest issue with my Pure is Cell Standby destroys my battery vs. the Doze feature on the 5X. I live in a fringe area and have no coverage a good chunk of the time. I either need to remember to put into airplane mode at night or try something else out. I am not sure I even want Doze on my Pure as I have read it may deactivate things like make the Moto great like Moto Assist for the screen.

I have decent cell service, and still get the cell standby battery drain and mobile radio active drain. I hate it

On your 5X or Pure?

On the pure. My biggest battery drain is almost never my screen. I was hoping marshmallow would fix that mobile radio bug but I feel like I read somewhere that it wasn't addressed.

Actually I'm the same. Banking, shopping etc all on my phone. I'm talking big games, movies, streaming stuff (battery killers) all on my tab.

In my case I have no games on my tablet. The games on my phone are for when I need something to keep busy on public transit or waiting at a doctor's office.

There you go, different devices for different lives! I drive everywhere and use my tab when away with work.

My 5X is officially being shipped off today. After using both all weekend I am going to stick with the Pure. I just like it better overall. The 5X was nice but honestly felt a little overpriced for it's specs and performance.

Um, why don't you plug in overnight?

Battery readings are calibrated by plugging in, letting it charge to 100%, and then leaving the device plugged in for a few more hours (info from Motorola Staff comments in the Motorola Forums). This is easily accomplished by plugging in while you sleep....every night.

Unlike old battery technology, current batteries are smart batteries. They ONLY take what they need. If that is a trickle charge every hour, then that's all that they take. If they need a big burst of energy, the the Turbo Charger will supply the max to charge it quickly....
