Selling 2XL, keeping V30

So after much procrastination I think I have finally picked the V30 over the 2XL (I say think as whilst it is on eBay I reserve the right to change my mind again!) I have said in other threads that whilst I only use one phone at a time I do like to run both an iDevice and an android one that I swap between as the mood takes me. That droid was the V30 but I had a pixel itch that would not go away so I got the 2XL at the end of December.

There is a lot to like about the pixel and I am not going to focus on the advantages I see for the V30 as this is a pixel forum but in the end it came down to the following for me:

- I could never get away from the feeling that the 2XL was bigger than it needed to be for a 6” device in 2017/18. Yes the dual speakers are better than most phones but honestly if I am listening to anything I will use headphones or speakers so I just don’t get the value, YMMV. Personally I would have preferred a smaller footprint. The V30 is a one handed phone, the 2XL is not

- Wireless charging….I see a lot of people saying that they could not care less about wireless charging but imo once you have used it for a while it is a hard thing to give up.

- SD card, this is maybe a false issue as I am yet to fill up the 2XL but there is something reassuring about being able to throw all of your music, photos and videos on an sd card and to not even consider running out of space. I have a 256gb card so that is over 300gb of storage on the V30.

In the end it came down to software and camera vs. everything else, and whilst software wise it is better than the v30 and in most scenarios is quicker too, not everything about vanilla android is better so it is not all one-way traffic. I always thought that software updates would be king for me but in reality not so much.

YMMV of course, just sharing my view.

Price is everything. If you paid the same or near the same for both then you will regret your decision in short time. The v30 was one of the biggest disappointments of the year. Horrible front camera, mediocre rear camera, and various screen issues as bad as the pixels were. Will lost its value quickly if it hasn't already.

You're confusing market value/price vs personal value. With perishable technology like mobile phones, personal value is much more important, IMO.

OP has stated his reasons why the V30 is a better choice for his use so why call him out and tell him he chose wrong?

The V30 is flawed, no doubt about that, the wired audio is terrific though.

Still waiting for one that ticks all of my boxes tbh.

Android - Be together and not the same!
Choices are what has made Android strong.
Enjoy your V30.
My choice will still be my Pixel 2 XL 128.

I think if I could morph the V30 and Pixel XL into one device, I would have the perfect phone.

Had to hold off selling as the screen flashing issue returned so Google suggested I RMA.

Replacement just arrived today, was going to just sell unopened but could not resist opening it. Pretty much zero blueshift on this one.

Are you keeping?

Lol! Why even open it? It still doesn't have SD Card or wireless charging...

It all comes down to preferences and to what you want to live with! I too debated between the 2 XL and V30. Both are great phones. I have two friends - one has the V30 and the other has the 2 XL - and so I've held both and have heard good things about both. It's so hard to pick a phone nowadays! Good for you for making a decision! :)

Pixel has unlimited storage to Google Photos for several years (more than I'll have the phone). Even still, I have half my 64GB storage free without deleting anything yet. The DAC means nothing to me as I use Bluetooth headphones. Cameras are super important to me and everyone I show pictures to is amazed at both the front and rear cameras. Finally, I can't stand the LG UI and they're horrible for updates!

Obviously, for me the Pixel 2 XL is the better phone, although everyone has different needs and wants.

I guess I have had a change of heart, would have been pretty stupid to open it and then sell it! Discovered the V30 has no Bluetooth AAC which explains why my QC35 sounds worse than on other phones. Have also noticed some lag creeping in on the v30 this week.

The quad dac is good and better than the 2XL using the standard dongle but with the razer one the 2xl sounds really good wired. Having a good 2XL makes a big difference.

Think I'll keep both for a while and am leaning towards selling the V30 now, yes I know I need help!

Hey, don't worry about it! We're all in the same boat! We'll be here to help you out; or to make your decision even harder (unintentionally, of course!)... We all just love phones so much!!

And, there it is. LG is absolutely horrible with updates and IMHO I could never understand why someone would choose slow to no device updates. For all of the personal advantages the OP thinks he has right now, in about 3 months he'll be hating his choice.

Ask the thousands of people who own Samsung phnes..

LG did a good job with Nougat, and it seemed they had turned a page, but they blew it with oreo

Every rule has an exception! Sammy, LG, and even HTC have been as much as 6 months out of new software updates to Android. Pixel phones really are special in that regard as they never lag, or get choppy. The UI is always smooth to almost boring actually. There are no more of those days in getting caught up with tryna figure out what's wrong with my phone. It's hard to believe the software is really this good.
