I want to do a complete wipe on Evo. I'm going to sell it, and get Nexus S 4G.

First off, I won this phone for free and it comes with a six months free service which will expire this July. How can I do a complete wipe so a new person who buys this phone gets their service set up?

I know I can do a simple google search, but I'm not sure how to wipe it out so that a new user can their phone number, user name logged in their Evo instead of the phone default user name that I got?

I already have Blackberry and I'm going to upgrade it to Nexus S 4G. I'm going to get the upgrade by selling Evo.

Thanks in advance.

Here u go:

1.Turn the power off. If your HTC EVO 4G is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it

2.Hold the Volume Down button

3.Press and release the Power button

4.You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock

5.Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button

6.Press and release the Power button

7.Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC EVO 4G. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

As long as the phone has a clear number the new user will get it activated with sprint.

So if I do a complete wipe and phone will be in its factor fresh state and the phone number/user name log in will be available for the new user to enter?

Until you activate the Nexus S, your EVO will still be tied to your phone number (even after you wipe the EVO). If you need to sell the EVO before buying the Nexus S, then you'll need to get your hands on another phone first and have Sprint do an ESN swap over to the temporary phone. That will remove your Sprint account from the EVO. Then you can wipe the EVO and sell it.

After you get your Nexus S, you can then get Sprint to do another ESN swap from the temporary phone to the Nexus S.

My recommendation is to just wait, save your money, buy the Nexus S, and then do a single ESN swap. It's more simple and you have less chance of something going wrong with your account.

Sorry, I know I'm probably hard to understand, forgive me. Sign language is my first language.

I have two phones. I have Blackberry that's eligible for upgrade and it was eligible since May 1st. I'm going to upgrade my Blackberry to Nexus S 4G.

I have HTC EVO 4G and I won it for free and it came with 6 months free/unlimited data service and it will expire July with Sprint. So this thread is specifically about wiping out the Evo. Since it already have data service and such for free that is good until July, how can I do a COMPLETE wipe and allow someone buy and use Evo with THEIR info?

The wipe instructions above are fine, but you still have an account to contend with. Either get Sprint to move the EVO's account to another phone or close the EVO's account. Either way, you don't want to just hand over an activated phone to a stranger... even if you've wiped it. There would be nothing stopping the stranger from making all kinds of calls on YOUR account.

Unlike GSM phones which have a subscriber chip (SIM card), which you can simply take out and transfer to a new phone, CDMA phones (Sprint, Verizon, etc.) use a unique code tied to each phone call an ESN number. Bottom line, you need to get Sprint to deactivate the service on the EVO before you give it to someone else.

Then the new owner can have Sprint re-activate service under his or her own name.

From what I understand, he is not paying for this account and he has a separate account with a BB on it that he does pay for and is ready to upgrade to the Nexus on the account he is paying for.

Basically he has a phone with free service for 6 months or how ever long is left. The data wipe steps are correct. I would just contact sprint and tell them what's going on. If its free 6 months then there shouldn't be a contract your in so you should be able to cancel the service anytime.

Anytime you have questions like this, always contact your sprint Rep as they will best be able to assist you.

Yes, I understand his situation (as he explained it). My point was that even though it may be free to him, he still needs to have the service discontinued before handing the phone over to someone else. Otherwise, that person may have trouble getting their own service on the phone.

ok, so you have a blackberry (with which you've been using to make calls) and an Evo that has a default-log in name with 6 months of free service. since the phone came out last June, and you say it still has 6 months of free service until June of this year, we can logically assume that no phone service has been used.

A. Have you ever made a phone call from the Evo?
a.No—the phone isn’t tied to your Sprint account. The ESN should be clean. Perform a Factory Reset & Cypher to wipe the device completely. Call Sprint to verify it’s not tied to your account & the ESN is clean.
b.Yes—the phone has active service
i.Does the phone show up on your account information (Sprint.com)?
1.No—the phone isn’t tied to your Sprint account. The ESN should be clean.
2.Yes—call Sprint to remove the phone from your account. Pay any fees associated.
B. Have you downloaded any apps with the Evo?
a.No—the phone is clean. Wipe it just to be safe.
b.Yes—
i.Did you log in to the phone with your Gmail account or using the default account provided by the phone?
1.I Logged in with my Gmail account---perform a factory Wipe to remove apps & your gmail account information
2.I logged in with the Default account—perform a factory wipe to remove apps
C. Perform a Factory Wipe & Cypher of the phone
a.This is a process more intense & can take about 1-2 hours to complete by the computer.
b.it cleans everything so it can't be Recovered by a program
i.* In Windows, mount the microSD card so you can view the drive (say "G") in Windows explorer.
ii.* Open a command window via Start -> run -> cmd.
iii.* Type "cipher.exe /w:g:\" Remove the double quotes and replace "g" with whatever drive letter is appropriate. It means run cipher.exe in "wipe" mode on drive "g."

"What about the phone number? User log in for the Evo itself? "if you never activated the phone online or by telling Sprint that you want to receive calls on the Evo, then it still is waiting for a Sprint phone number to be associated with it.
