My problem is sending emails from my Android 12 tablet which is a Fusion 5 F202.
All has worked fine until the last 3-4 weeks. I use Edison Mail along with K9 as email clients, K9 I installed to back up Edison as that was giving me problems. I can receive emails from both clients but they will not will not send. I have been using Edison for about a year ok before this problem started then after much searching on the net I found that my use of a VPN was the problem, Once I switched off the VPN network all returned to normal after about two days. For some obscure reason IP's have started not to like VPN's use for emails . Now after a couple of weeks of normal email traffic my tablet has now again refused to send Emails citing authentication. Using my wifes ipad I have checked out this email problem and it works just fine on the pad. All this points towards my cheapo Chinese android tablet being the problem.
I would much appreciate any advice.

Brian

Check your outgoing server settings. Change outgoing port to 26 or 587. See if that helps.

If. not, contact the developer of each app
Thanks for your help but I've tried everything you suggested and more and nothing works, it reports that the P/W and username are incorrect which they are not.

All things being equal your problem does not appear to be due to the email apps you're using, nor your VPN, nor your 'cheapo' tablet. Given things were apparently working OK before and the sending emails problem popped up a month or so ago. there's a basic logistics matter that rules those three things out as the source.
-- If it was a problem with the K-9 and Edison email apps, for both to fail at the same time is very, very unlikely. Email messaging has a long history of compatibility and stability. From a user's viewpoint there are just two protocols for incoming mail (POP and IMAP) and one for outgoing mail (SMTP). You've already looked into the configurations in your email apps on this matter.
-- If your VPN was the cause, toggling it off and on again hasn't solved the problem. Scratch this off as inconsequential.
-- If your tablet was the problem, simply because you don't have the same problem using your wife's mobile device does not necessarily mean your tablet has for some reason failed a month ago. The problem appears to more sporadic (software-related) and not a worked before -- stopped working now problem (hardware-related).

The revelation that error message indicates your account authentication being the problem is what you should focus your attention on. Just on a whim, have you restarted both your tablet and your router? A one-off glitch is hard to nail down but easily wiped with a simple restart (... and yeah, you've mentioned your wife's mobile device is working but even basic networking isn't that simplistic. The problem could be with your tablet's connectivity, all the other devices also connected to your home network have their own connections and are irrelevant to your email problem.)
If you've already done a reboot and that problem still occurs. thinking back a month can you recall adding app(s) or making any changes to your tablet?

Than you for your very concise and informative answer. I have looked at and checked out all the settings regarding my mail setup (I use imap protocol). I have restarted my tablet a few times along with the router. Just this morning one of my two email address has reconnected all by itself without any intervention by me but the other one still remains disconnected, As you implied the problem seems to be a software problem. To make this problem even more puzzling for me is that I can use the webmail access through my BB supplier Plusnet which also supplies my emails and that works ok. I have also contacted plusnet tech with this problem and together we checked out all settings and my setup and all is ok.

This a real puzzler. Things were previously fully functional, then something mysterious and elusive happened and it's triggering a sporadic glitch. You're able fix the problem but it arbitrarily pops up again.
Something is screwing up the user account authentication process between your tablet and your online email service, and it's only for outgoing email messages.
Which email service are you using? Gmail? MS Outlook? Yahoo Mail?

Hi,
Thanks again, I have now solved this issue along with your help ,well hopefully anyway. I uninstalled both the email clients I was using and started again from scratch, once this was done everything returned to normal and I can now send and receive emails. I mainly use Plusnet webmail along with Gmail as an alternative.
