I am going to send in my day 1 EVO (hardware version 0002) to HTC to be repaired. I have a crack by the on/off switch, one by the down volume toggle, light leakage from below the home, menu, and back keys, as well as a white spot on the screen about the size of a pencil eraser. I am hoping HTC will just send me out a new phone. Is there any trick to insuring this happens? I am going to "mark" my phone in some manner to determine if I get the same one back. Has anyone sent in their phone to HTC, if so how long does it take to get back, and did you get the same phone or a new one? TIA. Jason

Why would you send it to HTC? If you take this into a Sprint store it is covered. I have had these things happen to mine, and all I do is take it into a Sprint corporate location with a repair center and they fix it within a hour. Basically they replace the entire front end of the phone.

i took mine in and stated only that i had light leakage (same areas of the phone) and the screen was becoming unresponsive.
the tech said since it was w/i the 1yr warranty, HTC would cover it.i thought it would be a new phone, but when i got it, i entered in the dialer code "##RTN#" and found out that it was a refurbished unit.
(it'll show you every statistic/informative tidbit about your phone--try it)

it looked just like a brand new phone.
i suggest you do the same when you get yours back.
in terms of assuring you'll get a new one--i don't really think that's a possibility. sorry

##RTN# will show you the following:
mobile number
MSID
MAC-ID
CHIPSET VERSION
ESN
MEID (DEC)
MEID (HEX)
LIFE CALLS
LIFE TIMER
LIFE DATA RX
LIFE DATA TX
RECONDITIONED STATUS
RECONDITIONED DATE

OS VERSION
SW VERSION
RADIO VERSION
HW VERSION
PRL VERSION
PRI VERSION
PRI CHECKSUM
ACTIVATION DATE

you can use this when you receive your phone to check that it's the same phone you sent in, and if it's not matching the information, then you can see the Refurb Date

I do not have insurance, would that still work?? sounds easier than sending it off and all that. I have a repair store right down the street.

Yes it is covered under the warranty not the insurance. Those issues you have are not user caused.

Be aware, the sprint store will usually charge you $35 (+tax)even if it is under warranty. What they call a convenience repair.

I'm going through this same thing with my phone as the microphone has died.

I raised hell at the store, while still being polite, and they did not waiver on the fee, and also said I will most likely get a refurbished unit.

I would still rather deal with sprint FOR MY SITUATION because they will get me the refurb. evo in a couple days. I need a working microphone asap. If I was having issues like you, which doesn't affect the function, I would probably just go through HTC.
