So gang - my first post and sure could use some advice before I get myself deeper into trouble.
I've had my Galaxy Note 10.1 less than a month and in the past couple of weeks have noticed that in my e-mail file (I use a POP3 account with my Canadian ISP). - that when I delete my e-mails and then delete them from the Trash folder - that it shows 2 items to be deleted but they don't come up to be able to delete them. I've tried clearing the cache when I go into Applications Manager and click on e-mail folder but when I check back into my e-mail it still shows 2. When I've looked at the Clear Data section of Application Manager for my e-mail it says "All of this application's data will be deleted permanently. This inludes all files, settings, accounts, databases etc." If I click on the Force stop button it says "If you force stop this app, it may cause errors".
So my question is beyond what should I do - do you think my e-mail will open again if I click on Force Close.
My second question is if I do a factory reset - and my Backup and reset shows "Back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings to Google servers" - will all my settings be restored when I start the tablet again? Will I have to set up all my accounts again? I had a hell of a time to set up my Samsung Account the first time around.
Any advice you can give me would be more than appreciated. I don't want to have to go through the set-up process again, and if need be I can learn to live with 2 e-mails stuck in the trash bin.

Here's what I'd do before doing something as drastic as a Factory Reset. Go to the Application Manager in Settings as you have before. Clear Cache, Clear Data and Force Stop the e-mail app. Restart the e-mail app and see if that clears the problem. You may lose any messages in your Inbox and Sent folders and possibly your Contacts so back these up if you need to. You may also have to set up your POP3 account again but you shouldn't lose the ability to open the e-mail app.

Bluzman: Thank you for your reply and advice. I've run off your response and will give it a try.
It worked like a charm - no more hidden messages in my trash box in my pop 3 e-mail account.
