Sense UI on Rooted Phone

Okay, so I think I'm finally going to take the plunge and root my phone....maybe. My next question is this: I actually kind of like the Sense UI. I want all the features of rooting (2.1, tethering, getting rid of those blasted Sprint apps) but I also want to keep some of the Sense things like the Scenes, the widgets and the lock screen. Is there any way to do this? Thanks so much! :)

Yes, you can keep your sense UI if you root your phone. Some roms do remove, or try, but they explicitly say so. I like the roms with the Espresso dialer instead of the stock Sense dialer bar on the phone.

Espresso dialer? How do I know which ROM is for me? I'm totally 100% new to all of this. I've had an iPod Touch for over a year, and never even considered jailbreaking, and I've never hacked anything. LOL

Well, rooting doesn't do anything visually to the phone. Flashing Roms is where you get into visual mods. Everyone usually comes with screen shots.

Another root novice here

I think it's awesome that we can root our phones, but I've held off hoping I would love the stock 2.1 enough to not feel compelled to change it. Too bad, because I definitely want to change it, especially once they've made a stable Froyo version.

In a related question, is there a source that breaks down which ROMs have which features? I've really enjoyed the visual voicemail on my Hero, but from what I've read that may not be an option if I flash another ROM on my phone.

Do some ROMs have VVM, and will it be an option to include it on a future Froyo build?

Thanks in advance!

I think (don't quote me on this.) Someone had VVM going on the current build of Cyanogenmod 6 test 4. I prefer GoogleVoice though myself.

I'm actually using that rom as my daily now. Its fully functional except for the camera. (Download something like Camera magic if you really need the camera to work.)

Really, you want one of Breezy's roms.

These are very close to stock in look and feel (in fact, the average person probably couldn't tell the difference), and some of the variations contained within also have the sprint apps already removed.

Just read over which ones have what options.
